Who permits what around here
Livingston County runs its own show on septic: permits, soil evaluations, and repair filings all go through the Livingston County Health Department’s Environmental Health Division, out of Howell. Repairs that alter a system, and all new installations, get permitted there; routine pumping doesn't need a permit, just a registered hauler who disposes at approved facilities. If your project spills over the county line into Oakland, Washtenaw, or Genesee, the rules change — we'll tell you whose paperwork applies before we start.
